The forecaster-edited grid behind Finland's national service — the forecast a meteorologist actually signed, updated through the day and carried to ten days, with the probability of thunder and the precipitation form alongside the numbers.
MEPS 2.5 km
The raw mesoscale model underneath — HARMONIE-AROME over the Nordics, run jointly by FMI, MET Norway and SMHI. Visibility, CAPE, gusts, radiation, and the 850 hPa and 500 hPa fields the synoptic picture is read from.
Radar
The national radar composite at kilometre scale, refreshed every five minutes — what is actually falling, measured rather than forecast, from Hanko to the Arctic Circle and beyond.
Ten-day Outlook
The European model on a Europe frame, as FMI republishes it — where the Atlantic lows are queuing and whether the blocking high holds, ten days out, with the jet and the airmass fields aloft.
Baltic Waves
FMI's WAM run for the whole sea — significant height on a scale that tops out where the Baltic itself does, with the swell separated from the wind sea and the direction on every arrow.
The Sea Itself
Surface temperature, salinity and the currents from FMI's NEMO run — the swimming-water reading in July, the ice season's starting point in November, over the least salty sea in the world.
Why this site exists
The forecaster's own grid
The edited forecast is not a model: it is FMI's meteorologists adjusting one, all day, and it is the forecast the country actually receives. It is the flagship here — every field, hourly to T+36, out to ten days — flippable against the raw model it was edited from.
Metres per second, and Celsius
Finland states wind in m/s, so the colour scale breaks where the national scale breaks — navakka at 8, kova at 14, myrsky at 21. Every ramp is pinned to absolute values, so a loop shows the weather changing and never the palette re-fitting itself.
Six products, one instrument
Flip the edited grid against MEPS at the same valid instant and any difference on screen is a real disagreement. Same colours, same framing, same time axis, same probe — pointed at different forecasts.
Part of a network
Forecast Finland is the Finnish member of a family of model sites: Forecast Norway reads MET Norway, Forecast Britain reads the Met Office, Forecast Euro reads ECMWF, and weather.city covers places rather than models. MEPS is one model run by three Nordic services, so the same 2.5 km run appears here and on Forecast Norway — framed for each country.
